  • Lipo Charging

    Okay,

I'm trying like hell to get this lipo to charge up, from what I've read the charge rate is 1C i.e. my battery is 1200 capacity so that's a charge rate of 1.2A, however, its the first real charge so I opted for .5A.

It set up the charger as required in the manual Lipo, 1200mah, charge rate 1.2A, the charger doesn't allow for dis-charge on Lipo's so that's left out of the equation.

Set it off, drop the rate too .5A charge and I got after 2mins "Output Battery Voltage low", so try again this time @ 0.9A and the same error comes up.

I notice that the charger is not getting past .10A....

    1. Am I doing something wrong ?
    2. Is the Charger not working correctly ?
    3. Is my battery possibly knackered, how I would be surprised
    4. Am I losing my marbles
    Cheers

      LiPo's

With a good Charger you are given the voltage when the battery is plugged in - my understanding is if a cell is taken below 2.5v it's as you say knackered - and similarly if it reads above 4.1v also not good.
With programable ESC 's it's important to set the low voltage cut off correctly and avoid knackering a battery

new one on the way from Skyline, I spoke with Bob today and he suggested an a little trick that can work if the voltage drop's below but not highly recommended and at your risk.

Basicaly charge as a NiCad for 1-2min's max to push the voltage up just enough to bring the cell's up over the 2.5v.

Tried and it just beeped at me so......we'll see what happens tomorrow.
          Cheers

Hope you have it in a safe place Stu - I'm paranoid about LiPo's I have 2 smoke detectors over the charging area and the batteries in a tin box with the lid on while they are charging.
