  • Reflex XTR or Realflight G2?!?!?!?!?

    HI All

I am very interested in entering the incredible world of RC helicopters i have been interested for many years and only now find my self in the position to even conteplate entering the sport. I have been checking out this site for a little while and value your views on the sport as a whole.

Before i part with my hard earned and buy a complete heli set up i thought it wise to start with a flight sim first. If i can get myself to the level of figure 8s on the computer i feel i may be confident to attempt hovering a months wages worth of equipment a few feet in the air.

This brings me to my first question from what i can gather the Real Flight simulator series has been very popular and now the G2 with USB comander looks like the ideal way to get started.
But i have recently come accros the Reflex XTR also available with USB Comander and from what i can make out is a pretty impressive set up.

What i would like to know is two things.
Are the flights sims really that good as a learning tool and hence be of great benefit to the complete novice,
and which of the 2 sofware packages mentioned above would be the better option

I would be very greatful to hear any personal views on either package.

I am in the fortunate position of buying the software in the states at much reduced prices when compared to the UK as i have several relatives living out there this means that the slightly higher price of the XTR is almost of no consequence.

I look forward to hear your seasoned advice

    Many thanks

    Firstly welcome to the site...

at the moment in time I would recommend G2, why ?

Its proven, It has great back up support by greatplanes, it has an online facility to fly with others around the world and its everywhere.

You don't need to buy new you can get G2 second hand from usually Ebay, or the BMFA Classifieds.

The sim is very realistic, has training functions has very detailed parameters facilities allowing you to get extremely technicle with the heli's setup.

The downside, is that many people like to get the different heli's that you have to buy the add-on packs for while I think XTR you can get get online just about any heli you want.

XTR I suspect over time will pass G2 as the next level in graphics, but what you need right now is a good platform to get virtually into the air and this is a good starting point at minimal cost.

The simulator is gives you great orientation training and lets you have a feel for what control inputs = what responses, but at the end of the day none are as true as the real deal.

So, in my opinion go for G2......

If you want to get really low on cost get CSM V10, graphics poor but physics and orientation 100%.
    Cheers

I have tried G2 and XTR and Aerofly Pro.

I use XTR but G2 had a nice feature in that it showed you the stick moving.

      But I prefer XTR
