    Default With 3GX are you.........

Flying with ESC in or out of gov mod.
I've been playing around on both but there seems to be very little difference between them but have noticed when in gov battery is a bit warmer.
So to gov or not to gov...?

    My ESC is set at the moment to 1, 2, 1, 3, 3, 2
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

Have been thinking about this a lot. I really notice the difference in head speed between taking off and landing. Would be nice to regulate it. My new TX has telemetry so might splash out for the sensor and see whats really going on.

Ah good reminder it does increase head speed when in gov that's why there's little difference between the two because your ever upping one or lowering the other, im not sure im that happy with gov but i will give it a few days then revert back & try for another few days let you know what i think.

I fly my CC ESC in gov mode on my 450 and you can see from the attached plot the ESC having to up the output throttle % to keep up with the fading battery (sorry it is not a great plot as this was the only one I had on my laptop and was the first run with the esc so was playing and doing pitch pumps).

Yea... I can just turn off the governor and set it to a fixed % throttle. Would be fun to do... problem is I have work travel coming up

So the pitch pumps really suck the juice. Looks like about a 5% increase in power to keep the same head speed through out the flight. Sounds fairly reasonably. Interesting information.

    Cheers

Yea the amp draw rockets.. lots of fun though as the heli zooms skyward at high speed and then slam it into full negative and plummet it back to earth I have increased the sampling rate now so have better plots.. but not on this machine.

But what will amps do out of gov if your bogging motor amps could be even higher.

    Wow! nice flickr collection

Not an expert on this but from what I understand. You are supposed to leave about 8-10% margin for the governor to work. In the castle software it starts to complain when you get too near 100% as it cannot govern. So you need headroom for the esc to up the throttle to keep up with RPM request.

Second is the battery. If it cannot give the amps out ... then you need a better battery.

I am sure someone will chime in to correct me

Thanks for the comment on flickr.. you have a nice collection too!! Not been so much action on mine in the past year with our new arrival.. Hope to get out more this summer.

    Hi,

Not using gov yet. Plan to have a try next month. Using ice 100 FYI.
Not unhappy with tx throttle curves, but want to see if gov mode makes any difference.
Some guys at my club use gov mode and seem happier with it.

    cheers,

    john

Haven't used gov mode since nitro days!
Electrics to me seem to perform better on flat line throttle curves and everything comes down cool and unstressed- probably because I tend to sport fly rather than out and out 3d.

I've only just started to use gov but finding im having to lower throttle so can't feel much of a difference maybe its me but will give more time before i decide to opt out of gov
